Exciting Travel Plans

Monday, April 18, 2011

I woke up at 3:40 a.m. and felt the stress of the end of the semester, so I decided to sign up for the extra trips offered by S@S. I only wanted to pick a couple so I could travel with other people at most of the countries.

While in Italy, I decided to visit Pompeii with S@S. I've been wanting to go to Pompeii since I travelled to Italy with my mom in 2005 and I thought this would be a good excursion early in the trip to get to know some people on the ship. I've also heard it's super interesting to see the ruins so I'm pretty excited!

I'm also going on a service trip in Varna, Bulgaria where we will be working with orphans. Many children are abandoned by their parents if they have physical or mental disabilities. We will be given coloring books and other materials to interact with the children. I'm excited to meet the children.

Finally, I've heard such great things from people who've traveled with S@S about the Berber Villages trip. It's a four day trip that will allow us to explore a Moroccan village and interact with the people.
Day 1: Explore the city and enjoy a dinner with native music and belly dancing
Day 2: Travel to Tachbibt and make a three-hour trek through the dry but cultivated landscape where we'll spend our night in a Ait Zitoun village house.
Day 3: Travel to another village where we'll trek through forests near rivers.
Day 4: Finish up our trip traveling one more area and experiencing their culture

I'm excited to start planning some trips on my own with others where we can find fun things on our own including Turkish baths, Greek beaches and Spanish markets! If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
